Our charity partner Orange Sky, is supported by over 2,700 committed volunteers across Australia and New Zealand, who's help is vital to bringing mobile laundry and hot shower services to communities and people in need. Beginning the 15 of May 2023, is National Volunteer Week, dedicated to celebrating all volunteers! Check out the story below of Orange Sky volunteer, Judy, and her inspiring message.
There are almost 6 million volunteers in Australia alone, who each year dedicate immeasurable amounts of time and energy into making the world a better place for all. This National Volunteer Week, we want to thank the 2,700+ volunteers who give their time to support Orange Sky.
They create a huge impact on the lives of many through the simple power of a conversation. Often, the impact on volunteers is just as tangible as the impact on the friends they help each and every day.
We are continually inspired by the stories of volunteers and wanted to share Judy’s message with you this week in honour of National Volunteer Week.
Judy’s Story:
“Volunteering with Orange Sky helped me to change my perspective on my career path. Before Orange Sky I found myself not feeling very happy, I was in a part time job and was not given too many work hours. The workplace left me feeling very isolated and unsure of what to do next, which made my confidence decrease. One day I saw a Facebook ad that Orange Sky was opening a service in Maleny and they needed volunteers, so I jumped at the opportunity as this is close to where I live and the time worked perfect for me.
I love volunteering because I like to give really practical help to those in need, and the fact that I have helped people who are stuck and have no access to a washing machine, or can save that extra bit of money for necessities is very rewarding.
Being able to have a chat and build up relationships with some regular friends who recognise a familiar face is great. I just love the practical bit of doing washing and making a difference. It feels really good to be able to hand back clean clothes and clean bedding at the end of the cycle.” – Judy, Orange Sky Volunteer #NVW2023
