How to Prepare Your Space for Painting

by Sam |

So you've booked in your painting project with us, or maybe you're having a go at a DIY job, either way that start date is looming and you want to know how to get your space ready...

While it’s worth noting that a good painter will be happy and able to talk you through these steps when they arrive onsite, sometimes it might not be possible to have that conversation face to face or you might prefer to get ready in advance. If that’s the case, here are the 3 main things you’ll need to do:

Take down any Wall Hangings
This means anything from Artworks and Mirrors to Photo frames or Tapestries etc. If you intend to rehang these pieces in the same spot, let your painter know you’d like the hooks left there. Otherwise, our painters will take the hooks out, fill in the holes and paint over it.

Move Furniture away from Walls
As much as possible, furniture should be moved back from the walls towards the centre of the room so that your painter can move around easily. If your painting project is a full interior or a number of rooms, you probably won’t need to have every room ready to go at the same time. Start with one or two rooms and the painter can begin work there while you carry on preparing the rest of the space.

Pack away anything you have on Benchtops, Side Tables or Shelves.
Anything that may be at risk of getting knocked over when we lay drop sheets down or when furniture is moved, should be packed away in a safe place. This could be lamps, vases, ornaments, trinkets, books or photo frames.

Once you’ve taken care of these three steps you should be ready to go, but if your project or space is a little more unique and you have specific worries or questions you can always give our office a call and we will help you get sorted.
