What are Acrylic and Enamel Paints?
Enamel is a traditional oil-based paint, whereas acrylic paint is a newer water-based paint. These days, acrylic paint is a more common option than enamel paint.
Acrylic Paint vs Enamel Paint?
Acrylic paint has become the most common choice of paint for a variety of reasons:
- 1. Unlike enamel paint, acrylic paint is more environmentally friendly, and is generally low-VOC, meaning it gives off less harmful gases when applied.
- 2. Because most acrylic paint is low-VOC, it has little to no smell associated with the fresh paint. This makes acrylic paint more suitable for everyone, and especially for those who suffer from allergies or asthma.
- 3. Acrylic paint is designed to be more flexible and pliable over time than enamel paint, which means it will last longer. Enamel paint continues to harden over the span of it’s lifetime, which often results in the paint hardening too much, and falling off.
- 4. White acrylic paints won’t yellow over time like enamel paints tend to.
- 5. Acrylic paint dries faster than enamel paint, which means you can do more coats in less time, and overall have a quicker painting job!
Overall, we recommend using acrylic, water-based paints for your painting project.
